Event Contracts

Prediction Markets in North Dakota

A prediction market lets you trade event contracts on real-world outcomes. Each contract settles at a value that reflects what actually happened. North Dakota has not licensed the kind of online options found in some neighboring states, so event contracts on a federally regulated exchange give residents a regulated way to take a position on outcomes they follow.

Underdog Predictions is one product in this space. You open an account, choose a market, and trade a contract on whether a specific outcome will happen. The sections below explain how the mechanics work, how this is regulated, and how to get started. Nothing here is a promise of profit, and prices move with the market.

Underdog. Prediction markets are event contracts offered through a federally regulated exchange. They are not sports betting and not a sportsbook. Availability and specific markets vary by state and are not offered everywhere. Must be 18 or older. Trading event contracts involves risk of loss. If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, help is available at 1-800-GAMBLER.

How Prediction Markets Work

Each event contract is tied to a clearly defined question with a yes or no resolution. Contracts are priced between 0 and 100, and that price reflects the market's current view of how likely the outcome is. A contract trading near 70 points to a roughly seven in ten implied probability; a contract near 15 points to a low one. When the event resolves, a contract on the correct side settles at 100 and the other side settles at 0.

You are not locked in until the event is over. Because these are traded on an exchange, you can open a position and then close it before the event resolves, taking the current value at that moment rather than waiting for the final result. That flexibility is one of the main differences from a fixed-price product.

These contracts are regulated as financial derivatives rather than as gambling. That distinction is central to how the product is offered and where it is available.

How This Differs From a House-Banked Product

With a house-banked product, an operator sets a fixed price and takes the other side of your position. With a prediction market you trade a contract on a federally regulated exchange, where the price is set by supply and demand among participants rather than by a single operator that stands to gain when you lose.

That federal oversight is the reason these markets can reach some states that have not licensed other online options. It is not a claim that every market is available everywhere. Availability varies by state, specific markets are not offered in all locations, and the legal treatment of some event contracts is still being worked out. We are not going to tell you it is settled law in all fifty states, because that is genuinely contested. Confirm what is live for North Dakota inside the app before you fund an account.

Getting Started on Underdog

The account flow is similar to other regulated financial apps. Expect four basic steps:

  • Sign up. Create an account with your name, email, and basic details.
  • Verify your identity. Regulated exchanges run identity checks, so you will confirm your identity and age before trading.
  • Add funds. Link a funding method and deposit an amount you are comfortable with.
  • Choose a market. Browse the available event contracts, review how each one resolves, and open a position.

Before you commit any money, check which markets are actually live in the app for North Dakota. The menu shifts over time and not every market shown in marketing is offered in every state.
